Can you tell we've got Spring fever?
Last week we talked about the importance of sun protection with spring and summer on the horizon, and this week we're going to talk about how to update your makeup routine so that you're on trend and feeling fresh!
Minimalism is very on trend this spring, so switch out your heavy winter foundation for a lighter one, or even better, a tinted moisturizer (bonus points if it has SPF). Bobbi Brown's BB Cream and Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer are a few of our favorites, but if you're feeling like you can't go without some coverage, NARS Sheer Glow is an awesome foundation that is light on the skin but will sufficiently cover redness and imperfections. Another favorite tip of ours is to mix a luminizer in with your moisturizer, BB cream, or foundation for an all over glowy look (you know we love to glow). Try Becca's Shimmering Skin Perfector or Benefit's Girl Meets Pearl.
We've always been strong believers that bronzer will take you far in life. Opt for a bronzer with minimal to no shimmer for a natural sun kissed look. Too much shimmer will take away from the bronzing effect and will act as more of a highlighter. Speaking of highlighters, Mary Loumanizer from the Balm (check it out at Heaven & Earth in St. Helena), MAC's Soft and Gentle, and Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder are all winners in our book. Dust a little on those cheekbones and turn some heads. Keep blush light this spring! Use a pale peach or pink and try out a cream blush for a natural look.
Red and Berry are sought after lip colors this Spring. The key to pulling off a bright lip is to keep your eyes minimal, make your lips the star! If you aren't a bold lip kind of gal, no worries, nudes are in too. Last fall we saw a lot of brown toned nudes with the resurgence of the 90's makeup trend, but spring has moved into a pink toned nude category, which means you can get away with a clear gloss or even a dab of Vaseline!
A couple of classics have come back in full force this Spring! First up, winged eyeliner. We know, "winged eyeliner" always sounds so intimidating. All it takes is a little practice. Before you take off your makeup at night, whip out your eyeliner and take a few minutes to try it out. Try Kat Von D's tattoo liner, it is a liquid liner in a pen form with a Japanese calligraphy style brush on the end that makes winged liner super fast and super easy (we promise). Brown smokey eyes are also trending. Smokey eye and a tan?? Our version of stunning.
Now you have a reason to go makeup shopping! Woo! Glow on gorgeous!
